What should I expect?

When visiting somewhere for the first time, it can sometimes be hard to know what to expect before you arrive. Here's a run down of what you should expect if you decide to attend your first rehearsal!

Our rehearsal takes place in Farsley Working Men's Club's function room, which is to the left when entering the building (opposite the toilets). We officially start rehearsing at 7:30pm, but it's very likely that there will be people present from about 7:15pm, so feel free to turn up early and start meeting people!

Once the rehearsal starts, we begin with a physical warm-up to release tension from our bodies, especially shoulders and head. This is followed by a vocal warm-up, getting our voices ready to sing healthily, as well as some warm-up exercises focusing on singing in harmony with one another.

After warm-ups, you can join us on the risers to sing! It doesn't matter if you can't read sheet music or don't know the songs yet—you are welcome to stand in amongst the chorus and take in our sound around you. If you do want to join in, you can always contact us ahead of time and we can provide you with some of the learning materials so you can get a head-start and start singing with us on day one.

Every rehearsal, we also sing a tag, which is a popular way of singing Barbershop with other people regardless of if you've sung with them before or learnt the same music. Barbershop tags are short pieces of music which are taught part-by-part on the spot by one of our team, before joining all the parts together in harmony. This way, even if it's your first rehearsal, you'll be able to experience what it's like to be part of the chorus!

We also have a 10-15 minute break halfway through the rehearsal, for you to hydrate and meet other members of the chorus.

If you're still anxious about visiting, we can also connect you with one of our passionate singers who can help you through the process, including potentially meeting you outside the venue, introducing you to our other members, and otherwise helping you feel at home. Just send us a message and we'll try our best to make you feel welcome and excited to visit!
